Begun in August of 2002, The Monadnock Community Connections School (MC2) is a small high school that offers specialized curricula to eligible Monadnock area high school students. The school focuses on the four elements of effective learning: student-centered, knowledge-centered, assessment-centered, and community-centered. Students, advisors, parents and mentors work together to create individual learning teams geared toward the personal learning plan of each student. Learning is self-directed, experiential, and negotiated. MC2 has a low student-teacher ratio to allow for maximum individualization. MC2 school days are unique. Typically, students sign up for three academic blocks that meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students go to internships in the area. Students meet in advisory groups every morning to discuss their schedules and goals. The rest of the day is dedicated to their academic blocks.
